Coble turned
professional after his victory, and Ray McAuliffe, 30, of Buffalo, N.Y.,
succeeded him by defeating William F. Serrick, of New York, 6 and 5 in the
final at the Salisbury Country Club, Salisbury Plains, N. Y. Nelson Davis,
of Cleveland, won the medal with 73-73-147, and the qualifying deadline
fell to 159. New York won the team competition with a new low of 616.
Several Canadians were among the 98 starters, and Toronto placed ninth
among the teams. Even with the Canadian representation, however, the entry
was down to 103 and only 98 started. Both figures are the all-time lows.
