Arne Dokka,
a semi-finalist in 1964, won the 1965 title by defeating Leo Zampedro, a
fireman from Warren, Ohio, by the record margin of 10 and 9 in the final
match at the North Park Golf Course, Pittsburgh.
Dokka, 21, was a senior at California State College in Los Angeles.
A native of Norway, he came to the United States with his parents at the
age of 14.
Defending Champion Bill McDonald, of Topeka, Kansas, lost in the third
round. The team competition was won by Pheonix, Arizona with an aggregate
of 445. Tom Takaguchi, of Honolulu, failed to qualify although he scored
a hole-in-one during the second qualifying round.
The youngest player, Jim Masserio, 16, of Pittsbrugh, lost in the second
round. Three weeks later he won the Junior Amateur Championship.
