1954
Gene Andrews

Gene Andrews, of Pacific Palisades, Calf., the oldest winner to date at 40, defeated Jack E. Zimmerman, of Dayton, Ohio, 1 up, in the final at Cedar Crest Golf Course, Dallas, Texas. Thus, Californians had won the Championship eleven times and seven times in the nine years sine World War II.

Andrews, playing in 108-degree heat against a 26-year-old opponent, scored 73 and 72, three over par, for his two rounds in the final. Andrews' home course was the Rancho Golf Course in Los Angeles, where Ted Richards, Jr., the previous winner, also had played.

Richards could not defend because he had become a member of a private club. Dallas won the team Championship with a score of 220.
