Don Essig, III, of Indianapolis, Ind. A sophomore at Louisiana State University, defeated Gene Towry, of Dallas, Texas, a graduate student at Southern Methodist University and a former professional, 6 and 5, at the Hershey Park Golf Club, Hershey, Pa. Essig, 18 years and 8 months old, was the second youngest Champion.

Les Bolstad, of Minneapolis, Minn. Was 18 years 3 months old when he won in 1926. Essig defeated James H. Buxbaum, of Memphis, Tenn., the defending Champion, on the 19th hole in the quarter-finals. Bud Kivett, of High Point, N.C., a mail-carrier, won the qualifying medal with 72-69-141, one over par.

Highest score to gain one of the 64 qualifying places was 153, and only 5 of the 10 who made 153 qualified. Honolulu won the team Championship for the first time with a three-man score of 440 for 36 holes.
