Sikes became the second man in the history of the Amateur Public Links Championship to defend the title successfully. He did so by defeating Hung Soo Ahn, a 32-year-old draftsman from Honolulu, by 2 and 1, in the 36-hole final match at the Sheridan Park Golf Course, Tonawanda, N.Y. Carl F. Kaufmann won consecutively in 1927, 1928, and 1929.

Charles Ferrera, Amateur Public Links Champion in 1931 and 1933 was the only other two-time winner. Sikes, three down to Ahn after the morning round, rallied to win at the 35th hole. He was four under par for the day. Sikes' semi-final round victim was Warren E. Stout, Speedway, Ind., who lost by 4 and 3.

The other semi-finalist was Wayne Breck, of Scottsdale, Ariz., who lost to Ahn by one hole. Sikes, 22 and a Student at the University of Arkansas, later advanced to the fifth round of the Amateur Championship for the second straight year and was then selected to represent the United States in the World Amateur Team Championship.

Seattle won the team Championship with a score of 451. The defending Honolulu team was second with 453. George Archer, of San Francisco, was medalist with 73-72-145.
