Arne Dokka

Arne Dokka, a semi-finalist in 1964, won the 1965 title by defeating Leo Zampedro, a fireman from Warren, Ohio, by the record margin of 10 and 9 in the final match at the North Park Golf Course, Pittsburgh.

Dokka, 21, was a senior at California State College in Los Angeles. A native of Norway, he came to the United States with his parents at the age of 14.

Defending Champion Bill McDonald, of Topeka, Kansas, lost in the third round. The team competition was won by Pheonix, Arizona with an aggregate of 445. Tom Takaguchi, of Honolulu, failed to qualify although he scored a hole-in-one during the second qualifying round.

The youngest player, Jim Masserio, 16, of Pittsbrugh, lost in the second round. Three weeks later he won the Junior Amateur Championship.

PAR AND YARDAGE – Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club will play at 7,289 yards and a par of 35-36—71. Holes 1-9 will play at 3,582 yards and par 35. Holes 10-18 will play at 3,707 yards and par 36.

ARCHITECT – Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club was designed by Perry Maxwell and opened in 1951. A course renovation by Bob Cupp was completed in 1996.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY:
Monday and Tuesday, July 13-14 – Stroke-play qualifying, 18 holes (field reduced to the lowest 64 players, who advance to match play).

Wednesday, July 15 — First round, match play (18 holes)

Thursday, July 16 — Second round, match play (18 holes), Third round, match play (18 holes)

Friday, July 17 — Quarterfinals, match play (18 holes), Semifinals, match play (18 holes)

Saturday, July 18 — Final, match play (36 holes)

ADMISSION – Admission is free. Tickets are not needed for this USGA championship and spectators are encouraged to attend.

COURSE SETUP – The USGA Course Rating® for the APL championship at Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club is 75.5 and the USGA Slope Rating® is 130.

Tees, approaches and collars, height of grass – just below 0.5 inch
Fairways, height of grass – 0.5 inch
Putting greens, height of grass – 0.120 inch with a speed of 11 feet on USGA Stimpmeter
Primary Rough – 2.5 inches
Intermediate Rough – 1.5 inches (6-foot width)
