| David Berganio David Berganio, of Sylmar, California, took a commanding lead of 5 up after 27 holes and went on to defeat Brandon Knight, of Argyle, Texas, 2 and 1, in the 36-hole final match of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, played at Riverdale Dunes Golf Club, in Brighton, Colorado. Berganio, who also won the APL title in 1991 and was the qualifying medalist this time, assumed a lead of 1 up after the first 18 holes. Then he birdied four of the next nine holes to grab a 5 up lead and never was seriously threatened the rest of the way. More than 6,000 entries were accepted for the third consecutive year. |

Amateur Public Links PAR AND YARDAGE – Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club will play at 7,289 yards and a par of 35-36—71. Holes 1-9 will play at 3,582 yards and par 35. Holes 10-18 will play at 3,707 yards and par 36. ARCHITECT – Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club was designed by Perry Maxwell and opened in 1951. A course renovation by Bob Cupp was completed in 1996. SCHEDULE OF PLAY: ADMISSION – Admission is free. Tickets are not needed for this USGA championship and spectators are encouraged to attend. COURSE SETUP – The USGA Course Rating® for the APL championship at Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club is 75.5 and the USGA Slope Rating® is 130.
